HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0746.051 2000-2002 November 26, 2002 Dear County Council, My name is Mendy Dant, I am a daughter of a non-smoker that died from lung cancer last year. My father worked in the bar business for 20 years and as an innocent victim died from a cigarette smokers disease. In my opinion many cigarette smokers are unaware of the damage they are causing to the people around them as they smoke their cigarettes. Many smokers have legally held the tobacco companies responsible for their poor health and addiction to tobacco products. If these people need help in breaking life-threatening habits, what do the innocent restaurant industry workers need? While cigarette smokers have made the purchase of the products and the decision to smoke the non-smoker bartender or waiter is being harmed, in fact killed by doing nothing more than their job and servicing their customers. My father won't see his grandsons graduate from high school or college. My mother is alone and heartbrokenbecause my father was a restaurant industry worker. He was an innocent victim of second-hand smoke. If there is an opportunity to help and protect our friends in the restaurant service industry, shouldn't we take it? After all, we may be doing the smokers a favor too! AkCHV' Sincerely, Mendy Dant 78-6775 Makenawai St. Kailua Kona, Hi. 96740 PH. 322-2644 mendyC>fair-wind.com CioYT M.
