I am writing this letter because of m concern of smoking and how it has affected
me and my family. ~ 1W, 1,;4XAA 1
On August 4, 200, my father suffered a heart attack which caused him to be sent
to Queen's Hospital in Honolulu. He stayed there for a good week where the doctor had
installed a stent in his arm and then returned back to Kona. His doctor told him that if he
didn't quite smoking, he would not make it.
This was an eye opened°for him as well as the family. September came by and my father
suffered another heart attack and then again was rushed to the Kona hospital and then
again to Queen's hospital. They checked his stent, then and found that his flesh had
grown over, which caused him complications. They released him again where he came
back to Kona. The month of October went by o.k., but not with calling the ambulance
for breathing complications, the medics took care of him. November came along and
then is when it was a lot more serious, I called the emergency, they picked my father up
and admitted him into Intensive Care then the following morning they had to emergency
him to Queen's Hospital and at this time is where the doctor suggested an open heart
surgery to be scheduled the next day at 9:00 a.m. The next morning it went as planned.
Although I have been begging my father to quit smoking as a child through my
High School years, he did not. Then through my college days, then through the days of
my father having grandchildren, stop smoking did not happen. Now we are talking an
estimate of 52 years of the Habit of smoking. Who is getting the burnt end of the deal.
Me as a child, as a young adult, and now a parent of my own children. Although it has
been a good year that my father has not smoked, the battle is trying to get my husband
to quit. He was doing well as his 2002 News Year resolution, but he started up again
this month November 2002. Who will pay the bills that we suffer because of all the
monies that will rake in for selling cigarettes.
I beg for the really considering all the results that Smoking Cigarettes do to us,
here it is taught about all the drugs that people do, Cigarettes is also a drug and a very
bad habit. Please consider the consequences with the Smoking of Cigarettes in the
public. I also see people smoking their cigarettes driving in their car and when they
are all done enjoying smoking their cigarette they Toss it out of the car onto our road
and LITTER. Isn't littering a crime with a $1,000.00 fine. If I turned in the time of day
type of car and license plate # and saying what happen will anything happen to that
person. Will they pay that fine or will the tax payers.
I am very bothered with the smoke of the cigarette and fear for my health and my
Families. Please help!
