NO. 806 PLACE: Councilroom TIME: 1:06 p.m. Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawai `i 96720 Your Committee on Parks & Environmental Management, to which was referred Communication No. 806, reports as follows: Communication No. 806 is transmitted by Mayor Harry I~im, dated October 31, 2002, nominating the following two nominees to the Hawaii County Veterans Advisory Committee. Mr. Charles R. Mayes is from Council District 3, and has resided in Hawaii for 28 years. He has been active with the Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial (HNM), Inc. and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a legislative board member of the AARP. Mr. Mayes states that he is a member of the Democratic Party. If confirmed, Mr. Mayes will represent the IIIVM on this committee, and will be replacing Mr. Robert Montague, whose term expires on December 31, 2002. Mr. Mayes will serve a term to end on December 31, 2007. Mr. Gilbert P. Sampaia is from Council District 2, and is a nine-year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Sampaia is cuY-rently self-employed in the electronics repair business. Mr. Sampaia has been active with the Big Island Retired Military Association (BIRMA), and the Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial, Inc. He is also an active volunteer with the Hospice of Hilo. If confirmed, Mr. Sampaia will represent BIRMA on this committee, replacing Mr. Bob Pettit, whose term expires on December 31, 2002. Mr. Sampaia will serve a term to end on December 31, 2007. Your Committee on Parks and Environmental Management recommends the approval of the nominations of Mr. Charles R. Mayes and Mr. Gilbert P. Sampaia to the Hawaii County Veterans Advisory Committee for terms ending on December 31, 2007.
