Dear Sirs:
I am totally opposed to using county funds to finance an irradiation plant. If the county
must privatize traditional services like garbage, why must we own traditionally private
things like an agriculture industrial processing plant? Personally I will boycot all
produce treated with this "post harvest technology", and will also encourage my family and
friends on the mainland to avoid Hawaii produce. That is my right as an individual. If you
want to eat poison that is your right, just don't force me to pay for it with my taxes.
Secondly, in the interest of control, the plant should be somewhere other than Puna,
preferably in Chung's backyard so he can keep control. We know the plant is safe and will
be an excellent neighbor to Mr. Chung. In Puna we already have a safe, good neighbor in the
geothermal plant and we wish to share our good fortune with other segments of the island.
Sincerely, /
Bettie Van Overbeke
