Re: Resolution iVa. SS-97 RELATING TO ZONINGS A$OVE THE 5,000-FOO'CUNN7U1=~;gWA11
ELEVATION FOR PARCELS WITHIN 'l'I-lE KA.LOKO MAUKA SUBDIVISION
DT}' wife i,ydw and I live at the 3,000 foot elevation in Kaloko Iv(auka, and are part of
the Forest 5kewartlship Program. [b'e would he effected by the new resolution. For
years we have been coircerned with aF•propriatw subdivision that preserves this
precious watershed forest, especially since Kona appears to be the only region of our
island without a state watershed Forest ~escrve above it. Future water needs for the
population and future 3evelopment Hurst be considered..
Curtis Tyler has sent me the Resolution you. introduced. We find it to be Excellent
to clarify future appropriate subdivision.
Our input to improve this l2ecoTution is:
1) To make it an Ordinance.
2) In the third paragrar~h, ~ti•here iY states "tha County cannot prevent the bulldozing
of agricultural lands", an additional santente mf~ht be added:
Therefore we need to support the NaiTve Forest zoning classification (which would
discourage bulldozing Forest fur cattle b~ making Native Forest on par with agg for
cattle.
3) On Letter D-i, the suggFSt changir~ "i.e. Forest Stewardship Program" to:
such as the Forest Stewardship Program or Soil Cmiservatian Service Management
Prngra~n.
This would not make people only use the Forest Stewardship Program, as there are
others equally valid for Forest Tvlanabe:nent, and also because this Program may noY
even exist in time.
Sincerely,
