Re: No Smoking in Workplaces
I very much support this bill, especially the no smoking in restaurants aspect of it.
Smoking is notjust irritating though it certainly is that. Smoking within confined ,
spaces should be eliminated both for workers and for customers. If it is generally
agreed that smoking is unhealthy, how can we expect workers or children or people in
the care of others, to be forced to breathe second-hand smoke?
I can appreciate restaurant owners being worried about losing business, but if all
restaurants are non-smoking, I fail to see that it would make much difference. It might
even help! There is one restaurant (in Keauhou) that my husband and I used to go to
regularly -but the smell of cigarette smoke finally drove us away. Recently, we ate at
a restaurant near downtown Kailua and sat in the non-smoking section, with a fairly
tall divider wall beside us. The smoke in the next booth rose, was caught by the fan,
and blew directly down on our table.
As a customer. I am able to expect relatively quiet dining... that is, if someone at the
next table were screaming loudly, it would he considered an imposition on the rest of
the diners. So is smoking an imposition.
