As a community member of Lest klaweii, I am writing to support the bill for '
smoke-free wvrk places. Research has oleazly shown the health htuards of second-hatgl

smoke inhalation, inclucling lung cancer and other related respiratory illnesses. As a
health care worker, 1 atn very aware ofthe impact of cigtu~etie smoke vn smokers and
chore around them. Nn employee should be subjected to the secondhand smoke of
customers er cwworkers, nor should they have to choose their prove of employment
ac:cerdingly.
I work at a community heallh confer, where at least IO% of our employees smoke.
Despite restrictions on davignated smoking areas, etnployeas and patients are regularly
subjected tv the second-hand wnoke of"these smokers. 1 am net only cvncerncd about the
health implications, but also about the terrible image that this portrays.
As a health care provider, l urge ttty patients to Quit smoking. How can they
accomplish this if they work in an envirvnmert where smoking is rho norm (i.e. bars and
night clubs)?
As ocher states have modeled, eliminating smoking in the workplace has been
good for business, hringing non-smoking customers back in Let's create a safer,
hea]thier, and more positive work envimtament by making all work places smoko-free.
