As a community member, mother, and staff member of a health orgatisa#ion, I am
adamantly is favor of eluninating smoking within alt business establishments.
1 am old enough to remember when smoking wan encoraagod gad allowed.. almost
everywhere. This :favorable recepdoa led tLe way for thousands to joie the ranks of
smokers, who at some time of their litb regret startin8 this unhealthy habit.
Lt the early days, them was little mention of the dangers of second hand smoke.
Today, wiW the bena8t of nesaarab, we Imow second hand smoke Las been ]inked to the
same Lealth hazards as smoking.
Living in Hawaii we are accustomed tq practicing tolcraace and generally
speaking, accept diveroe lifestyles... as tong as they do no harm to ore families er
ouiealves. Smoking is bartatjul - to everybody. It is sa unhealthy habit that Is seductive
encouraging diseax and premature death. As a oonacieus able society why would we
invite tobaao smokers to pollute the air wa all breathe is a public establishmerrt?
Times are changing - smoking is discouraged. l mainrraiIr that smokes have the
right to choose to light up - but I believe, not at the eapeltse for those of vs who choose
to lead smoke free lives and must frequent the same establishments. ~p ~
