Re: Operating Budget
The State of Hawaii, Hawaii Tourism Authority has authorized a $75,000 Greetings Program
Grant to the Department of Research and Development. To address the increasing number of
cruise ships calling at Hawaii ports, the Hawaii Tourism Authority is providing funding in support of
the County programs throughout the State of Hawaii. The Department of Research and
Development, through its Tourism program, currently provides small grants to Hawaii County
greetings programs at Hilo Harbor, Kailua Pier, and Kona International Airport.
Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of
Hawaii, Hawaii Tourism Authority.
Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this
$75,000 Greetings Program Grant.

A. REQUEST:
Authorization to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii, Hawaii Tourism Authority for the Greetings
Program for Hawaii County and amend the Operating Budget Ordinance to increase revenue and
appropriations in the amount of $75,000.00.

The County of Hawaii's Department of Research and Development through its Tourism program provides
small grants to Hawaii County greetings programs at Hilo Harbor, Kailua Pier and Kona International Airport.
The State's Hawaii Tourism Authority through its Product Development Program incorporated an initiative to
address the increasing number of cruise ships calling at Hawaii ports and provides funding in support of the
County programs throughout the State of Hawaii.
Funding is available to the County of Hawaii for the Greetings Program and the County's Tourism program
acknowledges the Greetings Program as an significant component to Product Development.
