Have you ever gagged while walking into Wal-Mart? I have, many
times. There are usually at least four smokers right outside the door. It
makes me feel sorry for two types of people. On one hand, 1 feel sorry for
the smoker who could be living longer and saving money if they~c~ never
been introduced to this "killing product". On the other hand, I feel ~eti-y fpr
people like myself who get infected by it. r_ ,
I wish people would just realize that smoking really does fcHl:,
About 143,000 people die of lung cancer each year. Most of these deaths are
due to smoking. Cigarettes may also cause these types of cancers:...cancers
of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, esophagus, pancreas, kidney, bladder,
and cervix. Just more evidence that cigarettes truly are "killing products".
However, there are also downsides to this act. One chief problem, that
we have and are sure to make worse if we make this rule, is smuggling. For
example: someone might begin a crime racket like in the 1920's when Al
Capone started a major smuggling company. That is one of my greater
worries.
Another one is the triggering of mob mentality, or even deliberate
mobs. For example: if my teacher were to make a rule that every assignment
given had to be done in five minutes, we would have chaos, not thinking of
the punishment, until it is too late.
What I'm saying is that if smoking was totally banned from this island
completely, we wouldn't need as many gravestones at our graveyard.
Please consider what 1 have said about banning smoking as a state law.
