Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the County of Hawaii
Transportation Commission.
Council District 4 - Ms. Sue M. Ota is a lifelong resident of Hawaii and is a retired
registered nurse. Ms. Ota is very active in community affairs. She is a Retired Senior
Volunteer Program Advisory Board member, a member of the Hilo Association for
Family and Community Associations, a volunteer with the AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety
Program, and an active retiree and past vice president of the HGEA Retirees. She
states that she is not affiliated with any political party, and if confirmed, will serve a term
to expire on December 31, 2005.
Council District 6 - Mr Merle Martin is a 24-year resident of Hawaii and serves as
coordinator for the Center for Independent Living. He also serves on the State Mental
Health Board for Hawaii County. Mr. Martin is a member of the H.O.V.E. Community
Association, the Ocean View Chamber of Commerce, Disability Rights Hawaii, Inc., and
the Behavioral Health Council. Mr. Martin states that he is a member of the Independent
Party, and if confirmed, will serve a term to end on December 31, 2007.
