This letter is in reference to the long standing Puainako Street Extension Project, (over
20 years) specificallythe western terminus of the project that extends to the Saddle Road
— Highway 200 also designated as Kaumana Drive upper portion at the 6 -mile marker.
Currently, I am one of I 1 family joint owners of a residential home near the 6 -mile
marker on Saddle Road (TMK #(3) 2-5-055:042). I do approve of the proposed deletion
of the road widening right-of-way, as shown on the present Hawai' i County Planning
Department map.
This home located at 2625 Kaumana Drive — the first house on Saddle Road was
previously owned by my mother for nearly 30 years. She passed away in the Spring of
2001. My mother's home has been unoccupied for the past 3 '/2 years because she
required 24-hour care due to a disabling stroke previous to her death.
Our family joint owners are 10 brothers and sisters and a grandchild. Most of my
siblings do not live near the Hilo area or on the island of Hawai' i. It has been a financial
and logistic hardship maintaining this property. Our family joint owners would very
much like to sell this property immediately however, with the ongoing pending Puainako
Street Extension Project plans this has posed a barrier to placing it on the market.
I am requesting your full consideration in approving and expediting this proposed
deletion of the road widening right-of-way as shown on the Hawai' i County Planning
Department Map immediately and assisting with resolving this over 20 -year long
standing matter.
