7. Alii Drrve al Lunapula Road
The proposeq improvements consist of widening the westbound approach of Lunapula Road within the
existing right of way at Atil Drive to provide separate left and right tum lanes. This improvement is
shown schematically in the attached graphic. The left taro storage lane should ba a minimum of 10 feet
wide and 125-feet long- This will accornmadate the eftemoon peak hour volume of 1331eft turning
vehicles and will he Conalstenl with the design criteria of the Amedcan AssoGation of Slate Highway and
Transportation Officials.
The second modificatlon is to convert the intersedton to an all•way STOP sign controlled intersection.
As discussed In the YIAR, traffic along Atri Drive that dose net have fo stop for existing conditions wilt
have to stop in Mrs future. The ievet•of-service for AIN Drive traMa wIN decrease. Upon the compledon
of the Alii Parkway, this STOP signs could be removed due to the reduced trefflc voume expected at
this time.
2. Walua Road ar Kuakini Highway
Tha deficient movement at this intersection is the oastbound lea and through movement for Walua
Road. This movemem operates al alevel-of-Service (LOS) F during the morning and ariemoon peak
periods wittrout and with the pro}ect.
To mitigate this deficiency, a median refuge lane should be inatetled along Kuakini Nighway. This would
allow left tams from Watua Road to rrorthbountl Kuetdni Higfrway l0 fie completed in two stages. The
LOS of the eastbound left turn would tmprova fhe LOS C dunng the rooming and LOS E during the
afternoon.
The median storage should be a minimum of 10 fcet wide.
3. RaoomrrtertCed
No improvements are rewmmentled for the intersection of AIIi Ddve at Walua Road or Walua Road al
Lunapula Road.
