Hawaii County Council
Hilo, HI
Dear Hawaii County Council Member, James Arakaki,
We are writing to express our concern regarding the proposed industrial use of Volcano
Village fora 100 yard-long warehouse/equipment rental space expansion of the hardwaze
store in the center of our small village, which lies within an International Biosphere
Reserve and Historic District.
Please carefully consider this use and do everything possible to Snd another location for
light industrial business needs. Locating it in the heart of the Village will change the
rural, non-commercial community atmosphere ofour environment here in Volcano.
We would like to see the Council step forward, as leaders and law makers for our island,
to support both local business and community life styles. We ask that your actions set in
place some facilitated process to assist communities like ours to develop the land and
resources so that the human needs and the environment, the small businesses, bed and
breakfasts and artists, the community members and eco-tourists interests can be
respected.
Thank you for your consideration in preserving the unique life style that has
chazacterized theVolcano area, situated on the edge of a active volcano and serving those
who come from azound the world to visit the natural wonders of Hawaii Volcanoes
National Park.
Sincerely, ~~u
