I wish to inform you of and apologize for errors in letters submitted to you dated
December 23, 2002. (Cgpies attached.)
(Ref. to The first is regarding the nominations of Mr. Clifford Kaminaka and Ms. Kaliko
FC - C-77) Chun to the County of Hawaii Merit Appeals Board. In fact they are being
nominated to the County of Hawaii Civil Service Commission and not the County
of Hawaii Merit Appeals Board. For your information, the members of the Civil
Service Commission serve as the County's Merit Appeals Board.
(Ref . to The second is the misspelling of Mr. Hugo Coutandin's name in the letter of
YC - C-81) nominations for the Board of Appeals. The correct spelling is Coutandin.
Again I do apologize for any inconvenience these errors may have caused.

Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the County of Hawaii Merit
Appeals Board.
Council District 3 — Mr. Clifford N. Kaminaka is a 56 -year resident of Hawaii and is a
Revenue Officer with the United States Treasury Department. As a member of the
Alokele Subdivision, Mr. Kaminaka has served in various capacities. He is a former
Rotarian and member of the Waiakea High School P.T.A. He is also a member of the
Statewide Karaoke Club. Mr. Kaminaka states that he is not affiliated with any political
party and if confirmed, will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2007.
Council District 7— Ms. Kaliko Chun is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. She presently
serves in various capacities with the family business, Burgen, Inc. She is a member of
the Advisory Council for the Queen Liliuokalani Children's Center, the Coalition of
Hawaiian Organizations. She is the past director of Hui Na'au'ao (a coalition whose
mission is to educate people on sovereignty). She also is a delegate representing Kona
on Aha 'oni Hawaii/Native Hawaiian Convention. Ms. Chun states that she is not
affiliated with any political party and if confirmed, will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2007.

It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the County of Hawaii Board of Appeals:
Council District 2 — Mr. Valta A. Cook is a 35 -year resident of Hawaii and is the owner -attorney
of the Law Offices of Valta A. Cook. Mr. Cook's community service inculdes being a member of
the South Hilo Rotary Club, the Hawaii Concert Society, the American Cancer Society, the
Hawaii County Bar Association and he is a past member of the Lehua Jaycees. Mr. Cook
states that he is a member of the Republican Party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to expire
on December 31, 2007.
Council District 5 — Mr. Hugo Countadin is a 28 -year resident of Hawaii and retired from the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He has served as a former Mayor's
Representative to West Hawaii, an Alu Like consultant and a Firestone Family Constultant.
Mr. Countadin has also served on the State of Hawaii Tax Board of Appeals. He states that he
is not affiliated with any political party and if confirmed, will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2007.
