I~VtIEREAS, March 2003 is the ffTecnth annual National b~b'o~en's History Month; and
b~ETI-IEREAS, the tl~teme of this ydar's National Womert's History Month is "Women Pioneering the Future"; and
WI~IEREAS, the I-lawai`i Country Co~~nmittee or the Status of bb'o~en is sponsoring a "Real Women" Creative
Writing Co€npetition for stude~ats island wide in grades 5 through 12; and
WHEREAS, the essay contest increases awaress of the tn~y different ways that women made history in
I-Iawai`i and fosters pride in the outstanr~ing ~~ccomplishnaents of women in Hawaii; and
NObb', THEREFORE, EE IT RESOLVED SY THE COUNCIL, OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI` I that it
recognises :March as National ~~b'omen's }-Iistory Month and acknowledges the courage ~~nd countless contributions of
woman who made history thro~~ghout th United States and especia}ly ern the island of Hawaii.
ESE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of :-Iawai` i is instructed to transmit copies of this
reso}ution to Ms. Cindy I~Ia,, Essay Coordia~ator, and to the Hawaii County Committee. on the Status of Women, alang
with the Ha°~vai`i County Co°,zncil°s best ~:vishes for success and recognition deserving of their worthy contributions.
