Box 488 Voleano,Hl 8878b To: Hawaii County Council Planning Commission Re: Bill AW, ~Maurics Thomas' Rezoning Proposal" I am writing as a concemsd resident of Volcano Village regarding the subject rezoning proposal which I vehemently oppose. What we villagers love about our home is its' beauty, quietness, and uniquenss. It is the gateway to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Volcano's current residents play host to those visitors, many of whom stay in village inns and B&Bs and eat in the aroa's r~stauronts. Many artists and craftspeople have bean drown here by the aroa's beauty and have created one of this islands' few growth industrios. Tho proposed 100-yardaong lumber warehouse and equipment rental facility in the heart of fhe village will certainly impact the visitor industry negatively. The noise and pollution that are bound to be croat~d by the additional trofBe of huge trucks on our very narrow roads will ruin the rural lifestyle and certainly will not be appealing to visitors. Large quantities of lumber are not what one goes to tfi• store for every day -the Volcano True Value has not demonstrated hat it needs such a huge Tacility to stock fho occasional two~y- four needed for do it yourself home projects. Current facilities in Hilo deliver large lumber orders to Volcano free of charge. To duplicate these facilities in our quiet village doesn't make sense. in short, Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village is not the right place for Tight industrial zoning or use. Sincerely, Virginia R.
