My first visit to Volcano Village was in 1972 when T fell in lout with the surrounding
area. There is such a special ambiance to the village that is unlike anywhere else on earth.
When T rcturoed in the 1990's I was delighted to see how little Volcano Village had
changed, other than a plethora of bed and breakfast facilities, some special restaurants
and the artists' studios. Now that I'm a full time residerrt I would love to see the village
maintain its charm and dignity, for that is what draws the visitors and full time residems
alike.
In all good conscience I cannot endorse Bill #4 which would allow Maurice Thomas to
rezone his property, so that it will all be village commercial allowing him to build a
lumber warehouse in the rear of his hardware store. This would not be a proper use of
village land, to have an industrial complex in the heart of the village and it would be
grossly unfair to his neighbor to the left of the store.
Also, the extremely large lumber trucks which would be driving through the village
would be a hazard to visitors and children alike, who have to walk on the narrow verge of
the road. The Old Volcano Road is not wide enough for such a heavy flow of increased
t:sffte. It would create an accident just waiting to happen, That is a legal point which
needs to be addressed, hopefully not by future law suits.
