Arakaki, Chair Hawaii County Council 25 Aupuni Street Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Dear Council Member Arakaki: Dixie Kaetsu Managing Director I understand that concerns were raised at the last County Council meeting that the Sun Sun Lau property that we are proposing to acquire for the Fire Department is located in a tsunami evacuation zone, as indicated on the map located in the front of the telephone directory. The tsunami evacuation lines were drawn from the perspective of ease of enforcement for evacuation. The proposed Fire Department site is not within the tsunami inundation area as established by the Corps of Engineers and the University of Hawaii. The proposed site for the Fire Department would be safe from any tsunami or hurricane surf runoff and not be required to evacuate. If you have any further questions on this matter, please call me.
