Dear County Council Members:
This letter is in reference to the long-standing, " 20 plus years" Puainako Street
Extension Project, specifically the western terminus of the nroiect that extends to the
Saddle Road - Highwa
rL200, also designated as Kaumana Drive. upper portion at the 6-
milemarker. Currently, I am one of 1 I joint family owners of a small residential home
near the 6-mile marker on Saddle Road (TMK #(3) 2-5-053:042). I am requesting
approval of the proposed deletion of the road widening right-of--way, as shown on the
present Hawai' i County Planning Department map.
Our property is located at 2625 Kaumana Drive, which is the first home on Saddle Road
just past the 6-mile marker. Our mother, Beatrice Weiser, previously owned this home
for nearly 30 yeazs. My mother's home has been unoccupied for neazly 4 years because
in March 1999, she suffered a severe, disabling stroke that made it necessary for her to
have 24-hour care. She passed away two years ago, in the spring of 2001. The home
continues to be vacant.
Our joint family owners are 10 brothers and sisters and a grandchild. Many of us do not
reside in the Hilo azea or on the island of Hawai i. It has been a financial and logistical
hardship maintaining this property. Our family would very much like to sell this property
however, due to the ongoing pending Puainako Street Extension Project Plan this has
posed a complicated barrier to placing it on the market.
I am requesting your full consideration today for a final approval and expedition of the
proposed deletion of the road widening right-of--way as shown on the Hawai' i
County Planning Department Map immediately. Please provide us with the necessary
assistance in resolving this over 20-years long-standing matter.
