Many of my guests at the rental are from ot}rer Hawaii locations that ~ lair Volcano for one primary reason to escape to a quiet, uncrowded place. This s a community of residences and some small businesses, including many vacation i come rentals and bed and breakfast establishments. For many of us residents as well 3s visitors, Volcano is a quiet community where people come to get away from crowded c ~ cies, noise and traffic. The Volcano community will grow for sure. But, what will that growth look like? Allowing light industry like a lumberyard with its associated heavy truck traf$~, lift trucks, and noise to begin to develop in the center of Volcano Village simply da yes nor make good sense. i think granting this zoning varian ~ 4 rnm[w. ~r~; y~~ seater of Volcands current and future visitor art fed businesn~ is :11-conceived and not good com ,,,munitv, planning at all. Most of us have seen what poor or no planning can do as communities g •ow. If Volcano is to begin to need this type of light industry support now or in the futu .re, then we'll have to accept it but, industrial devela~ent in the confer of the eon~m~fa nQt acceptable. Abetter solution is to seek re ning of a parcel of land on Hiabwav u•-~3' from current residences and visitor oriented businesses. and plate all light iq~tijpgbjgl development there. something akin to Shipman Business Park outside of A ~ ~jg p~nosed lumberyard and any other future similar light industrial businesses must be placed in a well defined area ou~jdt of the village's cnrrent_residential any I small business area.
