County of Hawaii O-r'r, Re: Basils Restaurant o [.O Special Use Permit _ Dear Council Members: I am the owner-operator of Basils Restaurant located on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. Over the years, I have had numerous complaints from potential patrons. Their complaint is that the downstairs diningroom of the restaurant is not large enough to handle disabled patrons and families with baby strollers. Basils is geared for casual and affordable dining with the family in mind. I have studied possible ways to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. The best way to have adequate room and easy access would be tb place some tables outside of the restaurant, off the sidewalk thoroughfare. I have measured the area and with the priority of normal, safe, side- walk traffic in mind. I feel that I can accommodate these customers. I have surveyed the businesses along Alii Drive and believe that these individuals have a difficult time accessing any restauants. I would kindly appreciate your consideration in this matter. I will take all precautions and follow all of your recommendations so that all patrons may have the necessary access and ease when they dine. I look forward to hearing from the City Council.
