HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0106.002 2002-2004 Testimony Regarding Purchase of Land for a Pahoa Community Center I support the efforts of Councilman Gary Safazik, and others, to purchase land in the center of Pahoa Town to create a Pahoa Town Center. I would like to thank Mr. Safarik and other council members for their recent assistance in purchasing land for a district park. The major thrust of 1993 Mainstreet Pahoa Strategic Plan, which involved 75 people and several community meetings, was to encourage civic pride, provide a venue for community events, and to prepare for a reasonable amount of tourism to enliven the town and boost the economy. If it is now possible to purchase land and build sanitary facilities, make room for bus parking, and to create educational displays and space for craft displays and shops, I would view it as a positive and long overdue use of County funds. The original concept for the town center included a Fazmer's Market. I assume that a market would be one of the elements included in the planning for a new center. .r - ' / Ame~_._..,.._,_.- By__.-.._.,._,~, Virginia ste Dare. ~ - 13-631 Leilani Avenue, Pahoa, HI 96778 ~~^h Councx Comm.
