I am writing to congratulate you on being able to have the mayor spend the $1.25M
currently earmarked for a civic center in Pahoa Village, to buy and develop nearly 4 acres
in the heart of Pahoa instead. I am hoping that I am reading this Hawaii Tribune Herald
article (Sunday January 26, 2003) correctly, and that it means that the 1997 Pahoa Village
Park Marketing and Business Plan I prepared for Main Street Pahoa may actually become
a reality?
If true, it is so good to see such responsiveness to community-based priorities. That
parking lot is SO badly needed, and its location HAS to be adjacent to the "main street".
And in combination with public rest rooms, bus terminal, satellite police office, and a
farmer's market area, it would be provide a "center" to the town. It is also wonderful that
the Mayor and Dixie Kaetsu are being so gracious about letting it their proposal be
modified to better suit the community's priority. FYI, I enjoyed working with the Main
Street Pahoa boazd so much in preparing that 1997 report, that to this day I continue to be
an annual dues paying Main Street Pahoa member. It is one of the few (if not the ONLY)
viable Main Street program left in the State.
So again, congratulations Gary You cannot believe how pleased and amazed I was to
read that news article. So please tell me that it is all true! !
