The Iiig lsland has one of the fastest growing populations in the State, The increase in
regional population and the activities surrounding this growth necessitates slaps to ho
taken tv address the looming problem of waste dispose). The closure of the Hilo landfill
is eminent and tlx: skyrex:keting costs to the County Geperal Fund to manage this issue
will become increasingly burdensome. It is essential is increase revenue for this critical
situation. "These fees azc a necessary fast step towards a solution to a problem that needs
addressing now before major expenditures are incurred for all Big Islanders who need
these services to be solvent.
