Chung, Councilmember Leningrad Elarionoft; Councilmember Fred Holschuh, Councilmember Bob Jacobsen, Councilmember Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd, Councilmember Joseph Reynolds, Councilmember Gary Safarik, Councilmember Lawrence Mahuna, Police Chief Re: Allow our Community Police Oflicers [o authorize towing of abandoned vehicles Aloha Mayor Kim, Police Chief Mahuna, and Councilmembers: In West Hawaii, we have a serious problem with abandoned vehicles. That is getting them towed in a timely Fashion. There is only one person currently authorized to issue a tow order - Jaznes Isa. This man must travel to Kona one day per week to actually view the vehicle and order it towed. It seems inefficient to have one parson for the entire island and also to have them come just once per week (IF the Officer writes a second form for the tow request) to remove the abandoned cars. As of last Sunday, 1 witnessed 5 tagged abandoned vehicles within cone-block area on Painted Church Road in Captain Cook. When a vehicle is left for several days, not only is the car stripped but i[ is usually set on fire requiring the Fire Department to respond. This is hazazdous, time-consuming, and expensive. Our CPO's know their azea best and can quickly respond to these problems with the community's assistance. Please grant our CPU's the authority to issue the tow order and clear our street of these hazards and blights. Brenda Ford 81-950 Makahiki Lane Capt. Cook, HI 96704 808-323-2323 Gomm.
