Re: Operating Budget
The U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration is providing an additional funding of $50,000 to the Hawaii County
Police Department to enforce and educate the public on the importance of
seatbelt usage. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating
Budget by appropriating the additional funds into the seatbelt Innovative
Demonstration Program Grant -East Hawaii account.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED
The U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is providing
additional funds to enforce and educate the public on the importance of seatbelt usage. This will b e
accomplished by purchasing educational material for presentations and conducting seatbelt roadblocks.
