There are reasons to support this project: 1. We would save hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual rent by having our own building. 2. We need a multiple meeting rooms of various sizes to have community meetings and a coundl chamber that will hold at least 300 people rather tfian meeting in hotel rooms or inadequate buildings. I would like to see the seating area of the council chamber be sloped for better visibility with seats that are large enough to comfortably seat our people - even large neoole. We also need the council chamber and at least one other room to be wired for teleconferencirq. Additionally, the County mu a gasonable land rent to the Hawaiian g Tonle for use of the ce ed land. It is not fair to pay $1 per year. The rent pays far services and homes for Hawaiians and this needs to be accepted and appropriate rents paid. I do not agree that the first department io move to the new facility is the motor vehide department. Whatever their need: are, the members of the community only visit that facility once every few years. But we mu:.t visit the Planning Department, the Public Works Department, and the Reat Properti Tax Office repeatedly. The offices are so small that files for West Hawaii are held in Hilo and must be sent to Kona. This is inefficient. The space is so cramped that we do not have roortr for additional planners, engineers, or other staff, etc. I support building a first, very large module and moving Planning and Public Works into it as soon as possible. As you know, the greatest need for service and tfie most complaints for service are in these departments. Please support Mayor Kim's rnque~st to ouitd a West Hawaii Civic Center as soon as possible.
