Re: Resolution for amulti-year lease
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the payment of funds of a later fiscal year and more
than one fiscal year for the additional office space leased at the Hanama Place Office
Building for the Department of Planning. The County currently has a three (3) year
lease, expiring on June 30, 2005, for its West Hawaii County offices at Hanama Place.
The additional 1,053 square feet of space for the Planning office will be included byway
of an addendum of that certain Lease Amendment dated July 8, 2002 between the
County of Hawaii (Lessee) and K. Taniguchi, Ltd. (Lessor).

A. REQUEST:
Resolution to allow the Planning Department to enter into amulti-year lease for additional office space for
the Planning Department West Hawaii Office at Hanama Place. At an approximate cost of $2,337 per
month, all inclusive, the 1,053 square feet of office space is located at Hanama Place, 75-5706 Kuakini
Highway, Kailua-Kona.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED)
The current staff in the Planning Department's West Hawaii Office consists of 5 persons. The fifth person is
actually using borrowed space from the Department of Public Works. The Planning Department is currently
recruiting for two more persons. Three of the positions were reallocated from the Hilo office to meet the work
demand in West Hawaii.

This letter is [o confirm our discussions with regazd to additional space by way of an addendum
of that certain Lease Amendment dated July 8, 2002 between the County of Hawaii (Lessee) and
K. Taniguchi, Ltd. (Lessor).
We propose the following:
Additional Space: 1,053 Square Feet.
Rental Term and Rate: 7'he additional 1,053 square feet shall be consistent with the Term and
Rental Rate per the Lease Amendment dated July 8, 2002.
If the above terms are agreeable with you, please acknowledge your agreement in the space
provided below. However, if there are any questions or problems regarding the above, please do
not hesitate to contact me at 885-4139.
