Councilwoman B. J. Leithhead-Todd
25 Aupuni St.
Hilo, HI 96720
Dear Coucilwoman Leithhead-Todd:
I am a county employee who lives in your council district, and I have voted
for you in every election in which you ran for office. I want to thank you for
representing our district well. In the vast majority of issues, I have agreed with
your positions.
I am also a U.S. Army veteran. As a veteran, I am asking that you not
support Councilman Jacobson's position regarding our current war in Iraq. No
one wants war, but the President is trying to safeguard the Amercian people by
preventing a future attack on our nation from terrorists who possess weapons of
mass destruction. He is also trying to free the Iraqi people from a murderous
tyrant who has oppressed his people for decades. He wants to give them
freedom, a more democratic government, and a chance at a better economic life.
Why would any loyal American disagree with such honorable goals?
Of course, the war will be very costly in terms of shedding American blood
and spending American dollars. This makes our cause even more honorable.
The United States is not a greedy nation which seeks Iraqi oil and which seeks to
subjugate the Iraqi people. We want to free them from torture, rape, and murder.
Americans who oppose President Bush on the war are either: very naive of how
brutal Saddam Hussein is, very selfish (they just want to get on with their own
lives and not be bothered by the problems of a suffering people), very cowardly
or all of the above.
As a lifelong Democrat and a veteran, I support President Bush on this
matter. I have even written to Senator Akaka to express my views on this matter.
Please support us on this issue and reject Councilman Jacobson's resolution.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
C,,~~~~)) C/.v
