Department of Finance County of Hawaii i ~~JRu z', „ . 25 Aupuni Street, Room 118 - Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Dear Mr. Takaba: SUBJECT: HAWAII BELT ROAD, TRAFFIC OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS TO EXISTING INTERSECTIONS AND HIGHWAY (HAWAII BELT ROAD - KULAIMANO ROAD INTERSECTION), PROJECT NO. HWY-H-07-00 AT KULAIMANO AND PEYEEKEO, SOUTH HILO, ISLAND OF HAWAII, HAWAII PORTION OF KULAIMANO HOMESTEAD ROAD BETWEEN TAX KEYS 2-8-16 AND 2-8-20 In connection with the proposed highway project, the State of Hawaii requires a portion of your property sihrated at Kulaimano and Pepeekeo, South Hilo, County of Hawaii, State of Hawaii. Section 2642, Hawaii Revised Statutes, provides for the transfer of County roads to the State when required for highway purposes. Accordingly we request the transfer of a portion of Kulaimano Homestead Road, identified as Parcel lA, containing an area of approximately 617 square feet and shown outlined in red on the attached Right-of--Way map. Additionally, in order that the project may proceed without delay, we request immediate rights of entry and possession of Parcel lA, pending the execution of the Quitclaim Deed conveying the parcel to the State. If there are no objections to our request, please sign, date and retw-n to us the Consent portion of the duplicate copy of this letter within thirty (30) days of receipt of this letter. In the meantime, we will prepare the Quitclaim Deed and any other required documents. The highway project consists of widening the Hawaii Belt Road -Kulaimano Road [ntcrsection; providing left-turn lanes for traffic turning in to North and South Kulaimano Road; installation of additional street lights and provision of adequate sight distance for vehicles exiting North Kulaimano Road. The current estimate for construction start date is January 2004.
