T feel this to be a wonderful grant and idea to have poGcc officers in schools. We ae to all remember where crimiroals today-have learned there behavior, key word learned, more than lilrely as children. Not necessarily in schools, but as impressionable YES PeoPle~ Having a presence in the schools would provide children the atiility to associate with offioa~s and see them as real people, not the bad guys- During the committee tneeang a council member mentioned the fact that there has not been any real violence in nay of our schools where guns, knives or physical beatings are concerned, but we rutd to remember the big problem that I5 indeed in the school arena, and that is drugs. We steed to be apro-active community and not re- active. Preventing the spread of addictive and dangerous dnrgs among oar children would be justification enough for this program being, approved. If we catch them as children, they more than likely will not turn to crime as aduhs. Many children see police officers as "bad guys". Parents use them early on as ways to get their kids to behave and follow orders without the inteHtion of course, of having them viewed as bad guys. "Put on your seat belt, were going to get pulled over by the police", "get in your car seat, the policeman going scold you", "you better be good, the Policernarr going Put ypn in jat~", etc..-.I could go on and on. We need to have our children comfortable with officers and know that they can tum to them when Headed. Especially in this day when cl» ldren ace being kidnapped daily. I warn my children to know that they can turn to an offi«r. I just believe that this is a win-win situation. There was one testimony gives at the committee mec`.~g and it was against this resolution being passed. I just roamed to be a voice of support as a citizen and parent of school agtd children My eldest soli has just recently started school at ICamehameba Schools Hawar? campus. There security presence and campus policing is everywhere on campus and the children feel that added sense of security ea weII as the mind set to go the sttaight line. Lets give our public school children the same opportunities. PRO-ACTIVE, NOT RE-ACTIVE!!! SYin~gpre~ly, N. Ojano 10 T,wipolena Road ' Z FBIo, HC 96720 Comm.
