Honorable Chairman and Members:
1 endorse [ne County of Hawa?i Kcsolution No. SG-U3 and urge that it be approved fi>r passage by the
Hawaii C.ounly Council.
Among the the many important points made in the resolution, I resonate particularly with the declaration
that ha bponopnna, our heritage of resolving even the most urtransi};ent antagonism, has already been
acknowledged by the Council as a way of conflict resolution. Thos it's on the record that we stand for
harmony and human dcc:ency. !!o bpanapana is the Hawaiian way of making relations righteous. Many
other cultures have worked out ways to make everything pono, while using different tams and rich
variations in modes, yet their deepest aspirations are no different from our own. 13y passing this
kesolution, we join hands with new friends, and we serve among the wisest of statesmen in our conflicted
world today.
I call upon the Committee to da the right thing.
