County Council Members
SUBJECT: Support of Resolution No. 54-03 A Resolution Supporting the Formation of a Committee or
Advisory Board to Provide Citizen Input for the Pohakuloa Military Training Area
Dear Committee Members:
I am a thirteen-year resident of Hawaii and a teacher at Naalehu 8lementary School.
I have profound concerns about the direction our country is taking. We are becoming an excessively militarized
people. Our most pressing domestic needs go unmet while billions of dollars are wasted on bombs and tax cuts foi
the rich.
The U.S. is not doing one-tenth as much as it should to support peaceful resolutions to conflicts in the world. 1 view
the U.S. as an increasingly aggressive nation that has squandered the good will it earned after WW II and 9-ll.
The Big Island should be spared an increased military presence. I don't wish to see tank trails - or nm~ military
activity on this beautiful and fragile island.
1 support whatever mechanism citizens have at their disposal to if not oust completely then at least limit the
damage that the military does to our island (and the rest of [his world).

Respectfully submitted, JJ ~
