(Lowering the existing 35 mph speed limit on portions of Kawaihae Road to
30 mph)

transmitting the above bill. The amendment will improve overall traffic safety
along Kawaihae Road, from Lindsey Road to an area where Kawaihae Road
enters Statejurisdiction. The South Kohala Traffic Safety Committee concurs
and supports their et7brts to improve traffic safety along this section of Kawaihae
Road.

Comm. 225: RESOLUTION ADOPTING WOOD VALLEY ROAD IN KA'U AS A
(Res. 66-03) COUNTY ROAD TO MAINTAIN [N PERPETUITY
From Public Works Director Bruce C. McClure, dated April 23, 2003_
transmitting the above resolution. 'Phis resolution is being proposed for the
following reasons: FEMA will pay 75% of the cost to repair the November 2000
flood damage (approximately $1,000,000) only if the County passes a resolution
to maintain the road in perpetuity; Wood Valley Road is the only road in and out .
of Wood Valley, a community of about 50 homes, and the only connection to
County-owned roads within Wood Valley; no one is currently maintaining Wood
Valley Road; the only repairs to the road stem from emergency situations when
the County Civil Defense deems it imperative for County forces to make the road
passable; and a section of the road is a government road.

(Res. 72-03) ROADS CURRENTLY CLASSIFIED AS A "ROAD IN LIMBO"
