Re: Bill 260 related to smoking in the workplace
This is my testimony why I feel county council should go ahead and pass a
smoke free law for business on the big island, My name is Nicole Cardone, I
am 22 years old, a smoker, and n mother. I choose to smoke outdoors of
my own home, because I feel I owe that to my son who doesn t deserve to
brenthe in second hand smoke. It's not n big deal to me to go out doors to
smoke, what is a big deal is the health of my son. It's my bnd habit, I own
thnt, T do not want to harm others because of my nasty habit. Its gross, I
know its gross. I can't believe for one moment that restaurants would loose
business if they enforced the law, Example my favorite place to eat is
Miyos, anon-smoking environment, and that doesn't matter to me, I will
forever be a loyal customer. I dont necessarily feel the need to light up
before or during my meal, mostly it's after, and I do light up after I lenve,
on the way from the restaurant to my car. I can understand how unpleasant
it must be for people who don't smoke to smell smoke during the course of
4neir meal. I don't like to smell smoke while Tm eating either and that's
coming from a smoker. I also think business owners should put the health of
their employees first, then accommodate their guest with an outside-
designated smoking area and ashtrays. Bottom line, I feel that if I went to
a friends house and they didn't smoke its no big deal I can go outside. I
think we should have that same respect for nonsmokers, as well as innocent
children in restaurants and bars. Because we all have to eat but we dont all
have to smoke.
