Rs. Support of Bill 260-Relating to Smoko-free indoor workplaces
Mr. Chairman and committee members, thank you for this opportunityto
testify in support of Bill 260.
My name is Tni Enos and this Is Blanche Yarnell. We are Peer Educators at
Pahoa Hlgh School. We support Bill 260.
We need to protect all of cur workers from the harmful effects of second
hand smoke. On an 8 hour shift, the average restaurant worker inhales enough
second hand smoke to equal shelf-peek of cigarettes with every breath. They inhale
at least 69 chemicals known to cause cancer, These innocent workers should not be
exposed to there chemicals.
By removing sswndhnnd smoke from the workplace, many employees' health will
improve. Workers will b¢ more productive due to Ie:t sick days,
I also support this bill because T hate having to be around someone that
always smokes. Both of my parents are smokers,
Every time we go out to dinner at a restaurant, I am surrounded by a cloud of
smoke with cancer causing chemicals in it. My appetite is lost, ruined because every
bite is like taking bites of tar, carbon moraxide and formaldehyde. Sometimes it
gets hard to breatht because the air conditioning circulates the smoke In the room
and the air becomes stink. Even after we leave, my clothes still smell like smoke and
it makes me tick. I am afraid that one day, I might be diagnosed with lung
canar...ard I don't smoke.
I ark thnt you take caution for your life, and for all our lives, Takc this
bill into consideration, for one day, this bill may save your life or your loved-one's
life.
