I support this bill because my sister (who is pregnant) and several of my friends work in restaurants and/or bazs, They should not have to work in a hazaxdous environment, especially since second-hand smoke is a totally preventable work hazazd. In fact, some of my friends choose non-smoking establishments as their place of employment. My husband and I aze also highly sensitive to cigarette smoke. Before I go to a bar or restaurant where 1 know they have air quality problems, I have to tom;, extra medication to prevent a respiratory reaction. Therefore, we also choose out entertainment according to the air quality. If I don't have my medication, I usually end up with a severe respiratory reaction that means loss of work for at least a day. I urge the council to pass this bill. Thank you for your time and consideration of this matter, Sin ly, 1 Shelly H. Abe Ogata, R.N., M.P.H. POB 2104 Kea'au, HI 96749-2104 Ph. 966-8870 Comm. No. Ref. T~MM Ref. Date
