Subject: Relating to Smoke-Free Indoor Workplaces
My name is Sean Sewake and I am writing in support of Bill 260. I have been working in
various smoking restaurants since 1993. I never gave a "non-smoking" restaurant any
thought. It has always been part of the job for me. I have been at Don's Grill since January
2000. [t was a smoking restaurant when I started. It didn't really bother me one way or the
other except for trying to get those tables used with non-smoking patrons. It was just an
added stress for me because I would have many unused tables and a line for people at the
door.
Since Don decided to make the entire restaurant non-smoking this past January, [ am able to
utilize the whole floor during our lunch and dinner rushes. We are able to service more
customers and in a shorter amount of time. Some of the regular smoking customers were very
upset and said that they were never going to come back because we don't have a smoking
section. Even though we have lost those customers, the increase of regularity of the non-
smoking customers has more than made up for it. Don still has many smoking customers that
come regularly and understand the decision that Don has made.
