Subject: Relating to Smoke-Free Indoor Workplaces
My name is Don Hoota and I am writing in support of Bill 260. I am the president and
owner of Don's Grill, a family style restaurant, on Hinano Street. I have been running this
restaurant with a smoking section since I opened in 1988. Since many of my regular
patrons are smokers, I have been reluctant to become a totally non-smoking restaurant.
After much thought and contemplation, because of the many non-smoking employees I
have and the many families that come in with young ones, I decided to go non-smoking
throughout the entire restaurant when 1 reopened on January 2, 2003.
Though I lost a few of my smoking customers, I have no regrets with my decision. As a
whole, I have not lost any business and have much support from the public. My
employees are very happy and floor operations have been running much more smoothly
and efficiently.
I urge the council to pass this bill. Thank you for your time and consideration in this
matter.
