RE: SUPPORT OF BILL 260
Aloha! My name is Cheyla Vir~te Ventura, and I am writing in strong support of Bali
260. We need to start protecting alt worker8 from the harmful effects of sooondharxl smoke.
One example about people who inhale secondhand smoke would be people who
goes out for dinner at a restaurant. Non-smoking people haw the r6ght to have a peaceful
smoke-free dinner. It's very hard for non-smoking people to eat and enJoy their dinner.
They have the right to have asmoke-free ernrironm~t, So let's atop the smoking in the
putflic nsstaurartts.
I urge you to pass this bill. Thank you far your time and oonsideratbn in this matter.

Re: Support of Blil 260- Relating to smoke- free indoor workplaces
Hello, my name is Cortney Sullivan, and I am writing in regards
to Bill 260. I strongly support this bill because second-hand smoke is
dangerous to everyone. No one should risk their health at work
because one person chooses to smoke. Not only are people at risk for
asthma attacks, respiratory infections and other health hazards at
work, but also in bars and restaurants. People who choose to smoke
shouldn't put others at risk. Banning smoking from workplaces
protects everyone.
i strongly encourage you to support this bill. Thank you for your
time and consideration.

Alohal My name is Jeana Marcos, and I'm writing in strong
support of BIII 260. We need to start protecting all workers from the
harmful effects of second-hand smoke.
I also support this Blll because people that smoke shouldn't
smoke inside, even though there's a smoking section. Even with a
smoking section, smoke travels and bothers others in the non-
smoking areas.
People that don't smoke shouldn't be breathing ail the
chemicals because second-hand smoke causes cancer and
emphysema.
1 urge you to pass this BIII. Thank you for your time and
consideration in this matter.

Re: Support of Bi11260
Aloha, my name is Sara Wheatley. I strongly support 260 and stand
on my written testimony as submitted. I strongly urge the committee to
pass this bill.
I support Bi11260 because, although restaurants have non-smoking
and smoking sections the chemicals can float to the other side of the
room. The waitress who wants to breathe clean air can not because she
needs to serve the smoking section. When the waitress serves the
non-smoking section she is still breathing In the chemicals that floated to
that side of the room from the smoking area. On an eight hour shift the
average restaurant worker inhales enough second hand smoke to equal a
half-pack of cigarettes. With every breath, they inhale at least 69
chemicals known to cause cancer.
In bars, even though they have ventilation systems, it only can get
rid of the smoky smell. Accommodations do not work because people
who come in early to hear their dinner might still be there when the time
it is to change the restaurant into a bar. People who choose to not smoke
because they know it is unhealthy for them cannot breathe clean air
because others are smoking in the same environment.
Those are some of the reasons I support Bi11260. I urge the council
to pass this bill. Thank you for your time and consideration in this
matter.
Sincerely,
S eatl~

Re: Support of Bilt 260- Relating to smoke-free indoor workplaces
Aloha my name is Keani-Lehua Jim, and t am a concerned student, at
Pahoa High School, about workers in restaurants that allow smoking.
I plan on working in a restaurant and waiting tables. I have learned
that on an eigght-hour shift, the average restaurant worker inhales enouggh
second handsmoke equal to half a pack of cigarettes. With every breatfi,
they inhale at least 69 chemicals known to cause cancer. So if you think
smoking sections are a solution, think again.
I think if a smoker wants to ruin their own health, they can. They have
that right, but they shouldn't have the right to hurt others.
Please vote to pass this ordinance. It's for the health of all your

My name is Monique Oliveira. I am a concerned citiaen who would
like to share my feelings about the proposed bill relating to smoking in
public pplaces.
Do you know that just five minutes of exposure to second hand smoke
stiffens the aorta (The main artery carrying blood from the heart to the
body) as much as smoking a cigarette. More arterial stiffness makes the heart
work harder to pump blood.
Secondhand smoke is a health hasard that no one should be exposed
to in their work place.
Please vote to pass this ordinance, It's for the health of all your
constituents! Thank You.

Hello, my name is Blanche Yarnell and I am writing in strong support of Biil
260.
We need to protect nll of our workers from the harmful effects of second
hand smoke. On an 8 hour shift, the average restaurant worker inhales enough
second hand smoke to equal ahalf-pack of cigarettes with every breath. They inhale
at leost 69 chemicals known to enure cancer.
I also support this bill because I hate having to be around someone that
always makes. Both of my parents arc smokers.
Every time we go out to dinner at a restaurant, I am surrounded by a cloud of
smoke with cancer causing chemicals in it, I am afraid that one day, I might be
diagrosed with lung cancer.
Mr. safarik, if you nre a smoker or not, you should take caution for your life,
and f~~ your family's lives. Take this bill into consideration, for one day, this bill
might aavt your Ilfe or your family's life.

Hi, my name is Freda A. Kingery, and I am a concerned
citizen, from Pahoa High School. I would like to share my feelings
about the proposed H.B. 260 relating to smoking in public places.
I am in support of the proposed ordinance to protect people
from smoke in the restaurants.
When I eat, I don't like to eat and smell and taste the
chemicals from cigarettes.
I also don't want the workers who's cooking my food to put
his/her stained, yellow, cigarette smelling fingers in my food.
I do not want to get cancer from second hand smoke. Plus,
cigarettes really smell stink!
Second hand smoke is a real health hazard that no one should
be exposed to in the public places.
Please vote to pass this ordinance. It's for the health of ALL!
