Dear Chair and Committee Members:
i writing to cncourage you to support the bill that bans smoking
in workplaces, restaurants, etc. As a professional musician, I am
often exposed to second hand smoke and am very concerned about
the negative effects it may have on my health! I am also a father
of a two year old and am especially concerned for the health of my
son (and all babies and taldlers for that matter!) that are exposed
to second hand smoke.
The EPA has classified second hand smoke as a "Group A"
carcinogen-a substance KNOWN to cause cancer in humans. We
wouldn't allow people to spray DDT mist or saccharin mist in
restaurants and workplaces; why would we allow another known
carcinogen to be freely emitted in public places? It is time for
employees and the general public to be given the freedom to be
free of second hand smoke! If people want to poison themselves
and their families, that is their freedom; but I say they should be
required to keep their poison to themselves.
