RE: Bill #260 Smoking in the Workplace
Dear Council Members,
I am writing in support of the bill to ban smoking in the workplace.
1 am here as a private citizen and a previous smoker. l deeply regret and have to live with
the REALITY, the FACT, that I as a smoker for over 20 years put my son's health, other
family member', friends'. colleagues' and co-workers' health in continual jeopardy as 1
smoked in their presence, not to mention the multitude of strangers sitting near me in
public places.
I am here today, in part, to speak up ~md do what I can to make up for that behavior.
which did not take into consideration those around me.
If I had known, informed myself, of the health hazards that second-hand smoke exposes
people to. I would like to think [would have taken it more seriously. Now that I know
the effects of second-hand smoke,l make an active choice daily to not be in the vicinity
of it. This includes not going to restaurants that allow smoking, nightclubs and bars.
This significantly changed my lifestyle because there are so few smoke-free restaurants.
and no smoke-free nightclubs.
1 strongly encourage the City Council to pass this bill reflecting their concern and respect
for our community's health. Thank you for your time and service to the community.
