HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0179.025 2002-2004 Res. 56-03 Preemptive U.S. Military Action against Iraq
Position: Oppose the existence of this Resolution,
Recommend the Council TABLE this Resolution.
Background: There may be some Municipalities within Continental U.S. that have
voiced their opinion on this subject, however, each of them did so while the major
conflict was still being fought. Today, the major conflict is over and the so called mop-
up operation is continuing.
This Resolution has a similar approach as the Anti Waz Resolution and is intended to
support the Anti Government Movement (AGM). The AGM creates the following
situations:
1. Agitate the populace to react against Government.
2. AGM is funded by Trust Funds in the U.S.
3. AGM hires professional agitators to rouse the public.
4. AGM creates sensationalism for the newspapers and Media.
Hawaii County Council: The County Charter requires the Council to address this
Resolution but I question the objectivity of this Resolution. What is this Resolution
supposed to accomplish?
a. How will the passage of this Resolution benefit the populace of Hawaii County?
b. How will the passage of this Resolution now, affect the decision of the Federal
Government?
c. How will the passage of this Resolution today affect Hawaii State Government?
d. Did Hawaii County provide any input on how to vote on this subject at the Federal
Government level? If so, aze there any written documents?
e. How many of the other Municipalities that voted on this subject aze as dependent on
Federal Assistance as Hawaii County?
£ Will the passage of this Resolution "Balance the Budget for Hawaii County"?
