And Members of the Hawaii County Council
Refering to Bi11260, Draft 3
I am a former smoker, also partners in ownership of the
Alibi 'Tavern, Inc., in Kea.au.
This letter is about the rights of the stoker and small
business owners. How is it that the scales are tipped in favor
of the non-smoker? ,,hat about takinn; the individuals right of
personal choice: away, and our right as a small business to
allow or not, amoking in our establishment? If children are
not exposed, and c'-.ildren are not allowed in a Bar onl." business
and if individuals are aware of what they are subjected to,
what business is it of the governments? The government is slowly
taking away ouLr rig':t of choice. Is this right?
My partner and I have worked very hard all our lives, as
have many small business owners in Hawaii. 'vie saved to buy a
small business, and security for our retired ye-.rs. Its
always hard work and we'll never be rich. We are a small
country business.
Creating this smoking ban in Bars, will be devastating to our
business;. In talking with our customers, I estimate we'll be
loosing a third to half of our clients. -e ride a margin of very
little profit as it is, we only make a pa,.' check. BUT ,, PAY
OUR TAXES.
Small business is the bread and butter of our eccor4my in
Hawaii. As a Bar business we pay more taxes than any other ' .

Bars who only sell liquor, s ould have the choice of smoking or
non-smokinm in th&ir extablishments, and there should be a sign
posted stating so. Than non-smokers and smokers .like will have
a "choice". This •.ould be fair to eve:r/or,e.
