Since the quotes ' attributed to yourself are incorrect, the following are the facts. The reason for my not attending the meeting was due to the fact the West Hawaii Crime Stoppers monthly board of directors meeting commenced the same morning. You note that we had sent you bound booklets of data compiled from Sacramento Police Department. For your information there is no reference to Sacramento in the report We. have noted in letters one of our directors is a retired lieutenant from the Sacramento Sheriff s department who spent most of his career in charge of marked police cars and their equipment. . You state the data doesn't correlate with the Big Island and state the data from (Sacramento) was based on officers driving 9,000 miles per year. For your information I have visited Sacramento three times in the past 4 years during my presidency with Crime Stoppers International. Do you really believe we would even consider such a figure from this large city. The 9,000 figures were from Gillette, Wyoming and were used to indicate a different method of ascertaining costs since they use the cost per mile as opposed to South Bend who take the overall cost for budget use. We have no data from Sacramento. We are well aware that SUV's will be needed and have requested the Ford Motor Company to quote both the Ford Expedition and the Ford Explorer. Ylease note that any reports we provide are professional, and we expect they will be read correctly and not misquoted particularly when this casts a reflection of lax and incorrect research on the part of the writer, For your information my wife and I have, and prepare cost reduction, restructuring and o4her studies for both Japanese and American top 500 companies in all fields, and take offense when it is inferred in the press we are lax. Comm. No. Ref. 10: Ref. Date, A Registered Hawaii -Not-For-Profit Corporation Mr. Dwight K. Manago Vice-Chair Hawaii County Police Commission Page 2 Further to the initial report we followed with the lease/purchase proposal received from the Ford Motor Credit Company and have carried out further research and study. The figures shown in the study of that proposal and as shown in the ad placed in the West Hawaii Today are those that should be used for cost comparisons, all others are irrelevant. We would point out that we, and many in the community are concerned with VISIBILITY-PUBLIC SAFETY-COST, in that order of priority. The figures can be checked very quickly since they are based entirely on those in the police budget and the lease/purchase proposal. This should not take two months which is a figure quoted to us for such auditor research. Thank you for your continued interest and if you have questions feel free to phone or a-mail myself. Sincerely, West Hawaii Crime Stoppers ~ ~ ~ti~ Alan J. Pratt., Ph. D President.
