I. Nearly 50 years ago pathologists showed without any doubt that
tobacco smoke significantly damaged lungs. Since then the evidence has been
overwhelming.
2. Society has the obligation to protect the health and welfare of its
members, and through laws and regulations it has the means to do so.
3. As a member of the medical community I urge the Common Council
fulfill its commitment to protect the community from this noxious airborne toxin.
