RE: Proposed Smoking Ban Bill
Thar Chainnan Arakaki and all Council Members:
I am m favor of some type of no smoking ordinance, but I am opposed to limiting smoke
free hotel rooms to 80%. 1 feel that 50"/o to 60% smoke free would be more reasonable
withoul hurting tourism. I also feel that smoking should be allowed in designated
sections ofopen-air restaurants and bars.
Secondly, I am opposed to anything that puts an added burden on our police department.
I feel that there should be some form of "self policing" to require the business
establishment where the violation occurs to ask the offending smoker to stop or leave the
pretnisses.
I recommend that Hawaii County propose similar ordinances as Honolulu County and
the mainlattd.
