Dear Tobacco-Free Hawaii Partners and Coalition Members,
t do hope that Alex and others will keep the heat an to keep bars and bawling
alleys in the legislation. If not, we may and up compromising, as they did
here in Vigo County. Bars end bowling allays not included in smoke-tree
workplace legislation.
On the good side, the tobaoco-free agency in Terre Haute Is CHANCES, a youth
group that addrosses all kinds of addictions and indudes grants to youth
working witn non-profit agencies on smoking prevention/cessation. I will bring
information with me to share with our Partnershp and Coalition.
I am communicating with lung associations, medical and allied heaRh
processional associations, alpha-1 and other patient" groups, rural and community
health agencies, the Vigo County Minority Coalition, firefighters, etc, about a
spiromotry testing program in the fell and a collaborative Jung health event in
the spring in the Lndianapdis and Terre Haute areas. We will of course
include tobacco prevention/cessation In all we do. Perhaps we can think about ways
for our organizations to ba involved in collaborative activities to keep
public awareness on the importance of lung health, especially on the Big Island
See you Soon!
