I would like to offer testimony in support of Hawaii County Council Resolution Number
75-03.
Last year two laws passed that created the Healthy Hawaii Program and the Hawaii Rx
Pmgram. These two measures offered real savings to the over 220,00 residents in our
state who do not have drug insurance, Unfortunately, the current administration has not
supported these programs and funding has been restricted.
Although the Governor has offered her own solution through a generous grant from the
Weinberg Foundation, this two- year program is only a temporary solution that would
beneY3t less than 20,000 people. Furthermore, there is a bigger problem not addressed.
The message that the Healthy Hawaii and Hawaii Rx Programs are meant to send to the
Federal Government and the drug industry is that our residents need relief from the high
cost of drugs.
It is good public policy to create programs and laws that benefit our residents and look
out for their well-being. I am sure that you have similar sentiments and therefore I urge
you to support Resolution Number 75-03.
